I also wonder how much has to do with birth order? Are second children automatically less anxious, less pressured due to the fact that they don't have all the attention of a first-born lavished on them?

Lovely post :) I have the same here, with DD1 a little hesitant at times whilst DD2 just goes on her cheeky way without batting an eyelid, and also offering to stand up to the not-so-pleasants at school for her big sister. Though the eldest is patient at times with her teasing younger sister.

But the genes thing amazes me too; I'm from a family of six kids and we're all very unique. But in a way, as I think with my two, it's good that there's plenty of differences - would be boring if we were all the same.
